SMP recreates the look of a closely shaved or buzzed head using micro-precision follicle impressions matched to your natural hair density and skin tone. We can recreate any style of hairline to suit your age, ethnicity, personal preferences (soft/sharp/rounded/straight/widows peak etc). Does SMP look natural up close?
Yes, when it's done well. After 1,000+ clients since 2017, natural realism is my specialty. I've also worn SMP myself since 2016, so I know how it should look up close and how it ages. Most people simply assume clients have a full head of hair they choose to shave. Book a free in-person consult if you want to see SMP up-close in real life.
How long does SMP take, and can I travel for treatment?
Most treatments take 3 sessions of about 1.5–2 hours each. They're usually spaced a week or more apart to build density gradually. Clients travelling from Brisbane, Northern NSW or interstate can have all 3 sessions compressed into 1–2 days if they prefer. I also visit Canberra every few months.
How long does scalp micropigmentation last?
SMP lasts 10+ years, fading gradually lighter over time. For a crisp, fresh look, most clients have a touch-up every 2–3 years. If you prefer a softer look, every 5–10 years is common. Touch-ups cost far less than the original treatment.

Will SMP turn blue or green?
No. At Studio SMP we use premium, USA-made, carbon-based SMP pigment that is free of iron oxide. It is not tattoo ink. As it fades, it simply lightens along the grey scale. If you've had blue or green SMP elsewhere (typically caused by incorrect products and technique), corrective work is one of my specialties.
